Gavin weighed 3lbs 10.4oz today. He gained 2+ oz in one day. The nurse said thats great because usually when they are put in an isolette (open air) they have to work more to keep up their temperature that they usually loose weight. He drank all 10 mils of his milk and had a big poopie cookin for me by the end of the visit. Gavin actually tooted so loud that the couple next to us heard it. He also had his RSV shot today and his hearing checked which was fine. The nurse said he had a couple of apnea episodes. While I was visiting him he had like 4 and the nurse was no where to be found. I'm kinda not liking this new room he is in because its so big and is separated in the middle with a wall so the nurse isn't always in the same area and can't see or hear the monitor. There are so many babies I don't think the nurse sees just how many times he has the apnea episodes. I told the nurse how many times he had them so she could note it down in his chart. Thank goodness he brings his heart rate and O2 up on his own when he has them. There are other nurses in the room but they are usually taking care of other babies. Not one came over to me when he was having his apnea which is kinda scary. I can't wait for him to come home....soooo excited about that news. One of his other nurses told us a while back that if he still has apnea and everything else is fine they will send him home with a monitor. I think I'll be super happy to have him home but a little worried about everything else. hahaha Here are the pics for the day....

What do they tell you to do when he has the apnea? Is there anything you can do for him? I'm asking because once he goes home you are going to probably have to go through it and you are going to have to be really strong. There's not going to be nurses around, I know you already know this but it's about to be life little sister. It's going to be a different world for you and I'm sure you are going to handle it just fine. You just have to put your "big girl panties" on and deal with everything that comes your way. You can do it, you can handle it. You are an occupational therapist for goodness sake, you are skilled and now you are a mom and you will do whatever it takes to help Gavin get through apnea or whatever. Don't panic when he has an episode just be strong and know that he will recover from it and if he needs help YOU will be there to help him through it and YOU will take care of him. Bunch of love to you...trust in yourself cause, you kinda sorta have to now, Gavin needs you to. Love ya!
I don't panic anymore because its happened when we visit a lot. At first I freaked out and so did Ben. I'm not supposed to do anything unless the numbers don't come back up on the monitors....he is supposed to do it on his own (no stimulation). If he doesn't...which hasn't happened yet, then I would have to rub him or change his position to wake him up so he will breathe. But his are usually really quick and he gets it up on his own. He is supposed to grow out of it by 36 weeks. Both Ben and I have been trained in CPR and we have to renew our CPR before Gavin comes home. I know Ben and I will do just fine when he comes home.
